We know how stressful these weeks ahead will be and we would like to wish you all the best luck with your exams! 🍀 We are delighted to announce our next social event: A Day Trip to Balloch! Join us on Sunday 8th of May for a day full of fun and hopefully some sun☀️. We will meet at 10:30 am at Glasgow Queen Street (Departure train: 10:51 am - link for buying train tickets on Linktree), and we will visit the Balloch castle and country park. Come along to enjoy a picnic in the sun while playing some ice-breaker games to get to know everyone better. Don’t forget to bring your favourite snacks and picnic blankets!! The return will be at 15:15, but you can buy open-return tickets if you want to stay for longer. You both need to send us an e-mail and attend the AGM to be considered for a position.
The positions are: ____ PRESIDENT - meetings chair, supervisor of all activities arranged by the society, main contact of the society. Basic knowledge of SRC affiliation and event management very recommended. VICE-PRESIDENT - second main contact, supports and helps with the president's duties. SECRETARY - keeps mailbox updated, takes meeting minutes and agenda, membership spreadsheets and similar duties throughout the year. TREASURER - management of membership payments, SRC funds and other spendings throughout the academic year. *Must have a UK telephone number. SOCIAL MEDIA CONVENER - keeps social media platforms updated and makes the relevant posters etc. for advertisement. Basic knowledge in graphic design (Canva), Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter is necessary. WEBSITE COORDINATOR - keeps the website updated with the new committee and latest events/opportunities. Basic knowledge of Weebly page management very recommended. SOCIAL SECRETARY - brings outstanding and fun social event ideas and organises events (along with the help of the secretary for room bookings). 1ST YEAR REP - represents 1st-year views to the society and main contact with 1st-year course coordinators . 2ND YEAR REP - represents 2nd year views to the society and main contact with 2nd year course coordinator. 3RD YEAR REP - represents 3rd year views to the society and main contact with 3rd year course coordinators. 4RD YEAR REP - represents 4th year views to the society and main contact with 4th year course coordinators. The G-gnomes Society Daniel Bronder is a former university of Glasgow Genetics student. He did volunteering in national cancer institute in USA in between his degree and proceeded to do PhD in the University of Manchester. He is now working in a cancer center as a postdoctoral fellow.
In the 2022 version of the flagship review “The hallmarks of cancer” fourteen cell autonomous and non-cell autonomous processes have been highlighted. One of them is genomic instability which encapsulates mutations on the nucleotide level and copy number changes in the scale from kilobases to whole chromosomes.
